Spring Offerings for Transformational Coaching

Have you ever noticed how Spring feels like the real start of the New Year?
April 1, otherwise known as “April Fools Day” feels like the start of something new; the days are longer in the northern hemisphere and the weather gets warmer, flowers start to bloom and our collective mood starts to lift.
Our connection to nature feels energized at this time of year and there is a noticeable shift and relief from stress. Spring feels far more like a new beginning than the dark, cold of mid January in terms of our circadian rhythms.
In many ways, it makes sense that April should be the first of the year. The 12 month Gregorian calendar replaced Julius Caesar‘s solar calendar that was slightly inaccurate.
If we are tracking our cycles with the moon and the natural cycles of a females menstrual cycle, there are 13 moons per year.
With this model, a standard year would have 364 days (13 months x 28 days), with an extra day (or two in leap years) added as a holiday to make up for the difference from the 365 (or 366) days in a solar year.
The possible benefits of a 13 month calendar are:
🌟Uniformity: Every month would start on a Sunday and end on a Saturday, simplifying scheduling and planning.
🌟Simplicity: Each month would have an equal number of weekdays and weekends, making it easier to compare financial periods.
🌟Recurring Events: Recurring events would be easier to schedule as they would always fall on the same day of the week.
Some ancient calendar systems, such as those of the Maya, Inca, Toltec, Aztec, and Zapotecs, as well as the Norse, Han China, and Ancient Japan, were based on 13 months.
There are theories that the extra month is either SOL between the months of June and July ( in honor of the Summer Solstice)or VERN ( for the Vernal Equinox) between the months of February and March.
So what if we began to think of April 1 as the true new year? In Spring, I feel more ready to start new projects and venture back out into the world after a time of hibernation and reflection and grab life by the horns. How about you?
Is it a coincidence that we call April first “April Fools’ Day?Perhaps our misconception about the first of the year is a distortion that we need to correct to better align with our natural rhythms.
